Alcoholics Unanimous. Church of Intoxicatia. Don't let our name mislead you. While the Church is definitely about having a good time, our mission remains:
The Church orchestrates experiences for our Members in a safe, fun environment for the betterment of our Membership as a whole.
As such, the Church is really a social networking organization. Our Church ministry aims to select people who might be great people, and connect them with others of similar mind. Our rituals and rites aim to reinforce this relationship among our members, giving them a sense of fraternity and camaraderie. While the vast majority of our membership is male, we have a great number of female members, members from minority groups, and others.
Many of our members will see the similarities of our Church to a fraternity or sorority, for adults.
Alcoholics Unanimous began in 1993 as the Republic of Intoxicatia. Over several intervening years, the group operated as a Republic, a Kingdom, an Empire and now a Church. You may find much of what we do completely apocryphal, but our organization hierarchy structure mirrors and parodies that of the Roman Catholic Church. This is just a fun way for us to keep track of our membership, and dole out responsibilities.
Our organization is headed nationally by a Pope, with many supporting administrative national members. At the local level, each of the "Diocese" of the Church is headed by a local Archbishop. It is likely this person that you will have most contact with during your time in AU.
Our Current Pope resides in Jacksonville, FL, and you can most likely find him at one of the following locations:
- Sunday afternoons after 3pm at Park Place Lounge, 931 E King Street
- Monday nights after 9pm at Dos Gatos, 123 E Forsyth St
Just ask for the Truly Evil Robert the Right II. They'll probably laugh, then point you to the short Asian dude.
